Peterborough & District Womens TUESDAY Floor Hockey B Division 2025/26
Rules
EACH FLOOR HOCKEY GAME WILL PLAY BY NON CONTACT HOCKEY RULES WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONS
1) (a) A team must have a minimum of 6 players including a goalie for a game to be played. A team not having enough players has 10 minutes to get the required number and failing to do so will result in their team losing by default to the opposing team. The game will be shown as a 3 - 0 win for the opposing team. ( a goal for each period ) A team may borrow a goalie during regular season games to make the minimum 6 players needed.
1) (b) PLAYER ELIGIBILITY: If you are a goalie, you can play in different divisions because of the often shortage of goalies , however positional players, forwards, defencemen and rovers can only play on one team so that a teams true strength is easily distinguishable and positioning of that team into the right divisions can occur and make it an enjoyable experience for all players.
2) MANDATORY EQUIPMENT: All players must have some form of hand protection, shin pads, and a legal ( plastic floor hockey stick). Players must wear matching coloured team jerseys with different numbered sweaters. Though not mandatory it is recommended that players have mouth ( teeth) protectors. GOALIES MUST WEAR FACE MASKS.
3) FACEOFF PROCEDURE: A game begins with a faceoff and starts with a faceoff whenever a stoppage occurs. A player from each team will place stick straight behind the puck on their side of floor and upon the whistle of referee will attempt to get possession of puck. The only exception is a GOALTENDERS POSSESSION see rule # 4
4) GOALTENDERS POSSESSION: When the goalie stops the puck within their crease the referee will blow whistle to stop play and the goal keeper ( or a team defenceman or rover can at the whistle signal of the referee shoot or pass the puck from the crease. The goalie or team player has 5 seconds to put the puck into play and failure to comply will result in whistle being blown by referee and a faceoff will occur at a defensive zone faceoff spot. Puck cannot be carried out of crease must be shot or passed from crease failure to comply will result in a faceoff as describe earlier. If goalie stops puck outside of crease causing a stoppage of play, a faceoff will occur at one of the defensive faceoff spots.
5) CREASE VIOLATION; No player can enter their oppositions goaltenders crease either with their stick or body, if they do then referee whistles play dead and awards the defending team a goaltenders possession ( see rule #4) for CREASE VIOLATION. If a player persists in committing crease violations ( 3 or more ) they will be warned and next violation they will be penalized for DELAY OF GAME PENALTY.
6) OFFSIDE RULE; Any player other than the rovers who travels over the center line will be given a minor penalty for being offside.
5) POWER PLAY RULE; When a team has a power play awarded due to opposition receiving a penalty, one of the defenceman can go over the center line for the duration of the penalty. At the termination of the power play that player must return to their defensive zone.
6) COINCIDENTAL PENALTIES ; When both teams are given a penalty at the same time then each team will play shorthanded for the duration of the penalty and each team will play without the positional player that was penalized. ( Example one team had a rover penalized and the other team had a defenceman penalized, each team would play without that positional player for the duration of penalty. )
7) HIGH STICKING PENALTY : Any players raising their stick above the height of the cross bar of the net ( about chest heighth) will receive a minor penalty.
8) INTENTIONAL CONTACT PENALTY: This is a non contact league. If two players accidently run into one another that is called incidental contact, however if a player in the opinion of the referee, intentionally uses the body on an opposing player then either a minor or a major penalty depending on the seriousness of the contact will be called by the referee.
9) UNSPORTSMANSHIP CONDUCT PENALTY: Any player (s) using abusive language, threatening gestures or harrassing another player will be given a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. This type of penalty will also be called if any player(s) show the same conduct to the referees. After a game has ended if a player(s) become involved in any conduct causing referees to give out MISCONDUCT PENALTIES will be given at LEAST A ONE GAME SUSPENSION.
10.) HAND PASSING THE PUCK: If a players slaps, hits or directs the puck with their hand and it goes to one of their own players who then plays the puck, the referee will stop play and a faceoff will occur nearest the point of where the hand pass originated. You can glove the puck forward and play the puck yourself and play will continue.
11) PUCK SHOT OUT OF PLAY: If a player shoots the puck out of the playing surface then a faceoff will occur back to the faceoff spot closest to where the puck was shot from. If a player is judged by the referee to have intentionally shot puck from surface to stall or delay game, then a minor penalty for delay of the game will occur.
12) DELAY OF THE GAME PENALTY: This penalty will be called if in the opinion of the referee a player intentionally delays play of the game. The referee will normally tell the player to continue to play the puck before calling the penalty , but failure to comply to request will result in the penalty being called. This usually occurs if a team is winning a close game and is trying to stall play and run out the game clock so that the opposition cannot score.
13) USING TWO ROVERS: If a team pulls their goalie from the game, they are entitled to replace the goalie with a second rover. This usually occurs when a team is behind by a goal or two in the last stages of a game, for the purpose of trying to create more scoring opportunities to tie or win a game. With no goalie in the net any of the teams players, either the two defenceman or the two rovers can stand in the crease and block shots but cannot catch or place hand over puck causing a stoppage of play. If this was to occur then a penalty shot would be called.
14) PENALTY SHOT PENALTY: This penalty is usually called if a player has a clear breakaway to net and an opposing player, stops that scoring opportunity by using an illegal act such as hooking, slashing, throwing of the stick, goalie shoves the net off etc., this would cause a penalty shot to be called by the referee.
